About the Role

The Mental Health & Volunteer Support Lead supports the well-being of Alberta Homeless Foundation’s field volunteers and helps strengthen AHF’s mental health, safety, and aid-related protocols. This role is intended to provide structured volunteer check-ins, emotional support, and guidance on safe, compassionate outreach practices, while ensuring volunteers are not placed in situations beyond their training or scope.

Time expectations are 2–4 hours per month, with additional time as needed for protocol development, training, or urgent volunteer support situations.

Requirements

  • Background in mental health, psychology, counselling, social work, nursing, public health, crisis support, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, psychological first aid, harm reduction, or community outreach is an asset.

  • Strong communication, empathy, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Ability to support volunteers while maintaining clear boundaries and appropriate escalation procedures.

  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or community-based organizations is an asset.
