About the Role

The Podcast Lead will build and run AHF’s podcast from concept to publication. You’ll source and book professionals and community voices on relevant social and health topics, develop episode briefs and scripts, manage all communications, and lead the end-to-end execution with a small team of volunteers. The goal: produce credible, trauma-informed, solutions-oriented episodes that elevate public understanding and amplify community resources in Alberta.

Requirements

  • Editorial Leadership

    • Define the show’s mission, audience, tone, and success metrics.

    • Build and maintain an editorial calendar (seasons, episode arcs, release cadence).

    • Source, vet, and book expert guests (clinicians, social workers, community org leaders, policy experts, people with lived/living experience—opt-in only).

    • Draft episode briefs, interview question sets, and run-of-show scripts; ensure accuracy and neutrality.

  • Production & Delivery

    • Lead pre-production meetings; assign roles and timelines.

    • Oversee recordings (in-person or remote), ensuring high-quality audio and respectful dialogue.

    • Manage post-production with hired/volunteer editors (rough cuts, fact checks, final approval).

    • Publish episodes to the chosen host/distribution platforms and coordinate show notes, transcripts, and artwork.

  • Team & Stakeholder Management

    • Manage the podcast team (volunteers + hired individuals), including onboarding, tasking, deadlines, and quality control.

    • Coordinate with AHF Comms for promotion (social posts, newsletter, website) and cross-org partnerships.

    • Maintain guest communications: invitations, scheduling, confirmations, prep packs, thank-you notes.

  • Compliance, Safety & Ethics

    • Implement consent and media-release workflows; maintain signed releases.

    • Ensure trauma-informed, privacy-respecting practices; avoid identifying details without explicit consent.

    • Uphold accuracy (basic literature checks; cite reputable sources in show notes).

    • Flag and escalate sensitive content or disclosures to AHF leadership per policy.

  • Measurement & Improvement

    • Track KPIs (downloads, completion rate, subscriber growth, guest diversity, outreach conversions).

    • Run retros after each episode/season; iterate on format, length, and distribution.

    • Maintain a tidy asset library (scripts, stems, project files, transcripts).

Minimum Requirements
  • 1–2+ years in podcasting, radio, journalism, or equivalent content production.

  • Demonstrated experience sourcing guests, writing interview guides/scripts, and shipping episodes on schedule.

  • Strong project management: calendars, briefs, checklists, and deadlines.

  • Clear written and verbal communication; diplomatic, professional outreach.

  • Working knowledge of audio workflows (recording basics, editing passes, loudness standards).

  • Comfort engaging with topics like homelessness, public health, mental health, substance use, and social policy with sensitivity and respect.

Preferred/Assets
  • Experience leading a small creative team (volunteers).

  • Trauma-informed interviewing training; familiarity with consent/release processes.

  • Basic audio skills (e.g., Audition, Reaper, Hindenburg) and remote-recording tools (Riverside, Zoom).

  • Social media copywriting and distribution (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts), basic SEO/metadata.

  • Familiarity with Alberta community services and stakeholder landscape.
